SUMMARY:MacMillan Christmas Carol Concert 2015
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 16th December\, the Leeds Minister will host the third consecutive Macmillan Christmas Carol Concert to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre. \nBack by popular demand\, the City of Leeds Pipe Band will welcome guests when doors open at 6:30pm and will be followed by returning acts including the Leeds Grammar School\, the Leeds Minster Choir and barbershop quartet\, Northern Lights\, from 7pm. Roundhay Ukulele Group\, soloist Sophia Cockerham and the Nicky Allen Quintet are all new to this year’s event. Readings will be delivered by presenter of ITV Calendar\, Christine Talbot and the Lord Mayor of Leeds\, Councillor Judith Chapman. \nLouise Fisher\, Macmillan Supportive Care Officer at Leeds Cancer Support\, is looking forward to the third Macmillan Christmas carol concert. “We are privileged once again to hold our carol concert at Leeds Minster” she says. “We have booked some outstanding artists and guest readers; some of which have previously supported us and some new musical acts preforming for us for the first time. The generosity and support of these acts and all those who attend the concert means that all money raised can go directly to supporting patients their families and carers”. \nCity of Leeds Pipe Band on the steps of Leeds Minster \nMatt Jameson\, Leeds Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support is also getting into the Christmas spirit. “We have an array of talent performing much loved and inspiring Christmas carols to get everyone in the festive mood\, with a few special surprises too! With your support and generosity we can help make sure no one faces cancer alone”. \nThe funds which are raised on the night will be split evenly between the two charities. Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical\, medical and financial provision for those affected by cancer and they constantly aim to push for better cancer care. The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre is a cancer information and support centre based at St James’s University Hospital. \nLouise\, Matt\, and the rest of the organising committee are hoping to raise money and beat last year’s total of £3657.27 by seeking sponsorship for the event. The suggested donation of £200 would entitle you to two VIP tickets and a full page advert in the programme. £200 is enough to fund a Macmillan nurse for a whole day and could also contribute to the running of the new Leeds Cancer Support Group\, which is open to local cancer patients and their carers. There are also opportunities to donate £100 or £50 in return for a smaller advert. If you are interested in sponsoring the event\, please contact Matt Jameson at: MJameson@macmillan.org.uk for more information. \nTickets for the Christmas carol concert\, which also include a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine\,are on sale now. They cost just £10 and are available from Louise Fisher on: 0113 2066499 or at: louise.fisher10@nhs.net. \nPlease come along and show your support for what promises to be a truly magical event.
